Sari Palosaari Loose Configurations

29.9.–22.10.2023

Sari Palosaari works with space, time and the entaglements of materials. She is fascinated by forces that propel change and transformation. In her latest works, she examines heat as an energy that sets things in motion. In addition to slowly splitting rocks, she uses beeswax, brass, and industrial, architecture-related elements as her materials. The motivation for Palosaari’s work is ultimately the question of how we inhabit this planet, and how we relate to the natural forces that keep things in motion.

Palosaari’s works have been shown in e.g. Helsinki Biennial 2021, Manifesta Biennial (Les Parallèles du Sud) 2020–21, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma 2019–2020, Rauma Triennial 2019, Turku Kunsthalle 2019, and Varbergs Konsthall 2017, and she is taking part in the Mänttä Art Festival 2023. Palosaari’s latest, third, public work for Meilahti Bridge Hospital includes a façade pattern and interior sculptures. Her works are in the collections of EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, and The Finnish State Art Deposit Collection. Palosaari has been awarded the Raimo Utriainen Art Prize and William Thuring Prize.
