Maija Närhinen –
The works in the exhibition are assembled from countless different components that share a similar form. In the sculptures, found objects encounter natural materials collected from forest paths. Elements from various sources are mixed, placed side by side, and rearranged according to visual criteria.
Maija Närhinen’s works have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Finland and internationally, most recently at the Oulu Art Museum and the Mänttä Art Festival in 2025. Närhinen’s Doctor of Fine Arts degree was also based on her own artistic practice. A commissioned work for the EMMA collection was completed in 2023, and her works are also included in the collections of, among others, Kiasma, Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art, the Helsinki Art Museum, Oulu Art Museum, Rovaniemi Art Museum, and the Saastamoinen and Serlachius Foundations. Närhinen was awarded the State Prize for the Visual Arts in 2024.
