Pauliina Turakka Purhonen, Raisa Raekallio, Misha del Val Here, There, and In-Between
‘Here, There and In-Between’ is a project in collaboration between Helsinki-based artist Pauliina Turakka-Purhonen and Kittilä-based artist couple Raisa Raekallio and Misha del Val. The exhibition presents pieces produced individually, as well as works made jointly by the three artists.
Pauliina Turakka Purhonen graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2003. She is particularly known for her detailed textile sculptures, which are hand-stitched and embroidered. The works often depict people in the immediate environment, such as friends or family members. The works also often have links to religious imagery. Turakka Purhonen’s works are in several important Finnish museum collections, including HAM, EMMA and Kiasma.
Artist duo Misha del Val (Bilbao, Spain) and Raisa Raekallio (Kittilä, Finland) have been collaborating on paintings, drawings, performance works and curatorial projects since 2013. Their paintings speak for the connection to nature and pluralism. It is rare in the field of painting for two artists to work together. Raekallio graduated from the Lahti Art Institute in 2002 and del Val graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Basque Country in 2003, followed by a Master of Arts in Australia.
The Finnish Heritage Agency has supported the payment of artists’ exhibition fee.
