Krister Gråhn Appointed to the Council of Arts and Culture

Krister Gråhn, a member of the Association of Finnish Sculptors, has been appointed to the Arts and Culture Council upon the association’s recommendation. The Government made the decisions based on preparations by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Council’s term begins on 1 July, 2026, and ends on 30 June, 2029.

The Arts and Culture Council will decide on the procedures for peer review and appoint the first panel of experts by the end of September.

“Art arises from the ideas underlying actions and activities, and it is not dependent on technique, style, or genre. The field of visual arts is incredibly broad and diverse, and I cannot for a moment imagine being able to grasp it on my own—I will need the knowledge, insights, and support of experts in the arts working across Finland. “I look forward not only to the new perspective that serving on the Arts and Culture Council offers, but also to the learning and understanding that collaboration and dialogue with various stakeholders will provide,” says Gråhn.

Krister Gråhn, a member of the Finnish Sculptors’ Association, is a visual artist, museum curator, and curator from Mänttä. Gråhn graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts Helsinki with a Master of Arts degree from the Praxis programme in 2026 and a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture in 2009. Gråhn also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Imatra Art School (now LAB University of Applied Sciences) and a specialised vocational qualification as a museum curator. Gråhn is actively involved as an artist and curator, as well as in art magazines, art associations, and positions of trust. Gråhn has experience working in various parts of Finland.
