Saskia Suominen appointed as Exhibition Manager at Galleria Sculptor
Suominen joins Galleria Sculptor, run by the Association of Finnish Sculptors, from her position as Executive Director of the artists’ association Arte ry and contemporary art space Titanik. She holds a masters’ degree from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts’ programme in Exhibition Studies. She has contributed to transparent, inclusive and accessible exhibition practices. Suominen did a BA in Budapest focusing on commercial gallery management.
‘It is a great pleasure to join the team at the Association of Finnish Sculptors and to develop the activities of Galleria Sculptor. I find it essential to advocate for inclusivity in the arts, which is also something I wish to continue to work on in my new role. Galleria Sculptor has a versatile exhibition programme and it is exciting to focus on developing a gallery focussing on contemporary sculpture and spatial art. I look forward to working with artists and to the TEOS event in the spring. See you at Sculptor, says Saskia Suominen.
Suominen has worked on major international art projects such as the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Helsinki Biennial and the Baltic Triennial 13 in Estonia. In her role at Galleria Sculptor, Suominen will start part-time at the beginning of February and full-time from March.
During the application period, we received 54 applications for the position of Exhibitions’ Manager, from which 5 candidates were interviewed. We warmly thank all applicants for their interest in the position. Exhibitions’ Manager Elina Hämäläinen moved to a new position as Curator at the Finnish National Gallery in January.
The Association of Finnish Sculptors has been running Galleria Sculptor gallery for over 45 years, and it is the only gallery in Finland to specialise in sculpture and spatial art.
